MMC?

There are serious problems with that whole "maiden, mother, crone" thing. But I'm not telling You anything You didn't already know.

(Am I ever? Do You know everything? I don't believe all deities do. You? I don't always feel sure about what I believe about You.)

The whole thing is a handful of problems on its own. Applying it to You adds a few more.

And yet...

In a personal way, it is true. You are an eternal maiden. "Maiden, I beg of you to be present at these sacred rites..." It's there in the Orphic hymn. It's actually there more than once. 

But some of the stories say You have given birth. That being unwed does not mean You have never acted on physical desires, or that You have never had children. And there are more ways to be a mother than giving birth. And there are more ways to give birth than the physical. How many times have I called out to give You praise or seek Your wisdom and started with "Dark Mother Hekate..."? Sometimes I call You "Beautiful Dark Mother Hekate". You gave me life in a way I never could have imagined, and Your very existence is beautiful to me.

How can an eternal maiden also be a crone? I don't know where Your story truly begins. I don't know if You are older than this world. I don't know if You are older than this universe. I know You are ancient, and that you have wisdom no human crone would try to claim she shares if she is truly wise. I guess you could say I think there's an Honorary Cronehood for You.

I avoid the "maiden, mother, crone" nonsense. But the rules don't really apply to You, do they?
