Dark Mother

There are those who say You have always been a kind and gentle, warm and nurturing mother. That You are the older flame of life and fertility in the Underworld, and that is why You could become something of a mentor and second mother to Persephone. That it is fear of Your power that warped men into telling lies about You so that people would fear you.

There are those who say the very idea of You as any kind of nurturing mother is uneducated and ridiculous! That anyone who would think such things has not studied the history at all, and is delusional about having any contact with You.

There are those who experience You in a variety of forms, and those who do not experience You at all.

I am not "better" than others, just have had a very different life. So I did not meet You any of the ways so many others do.

They were not there when You sent me back. By refusing me death, you gave me life.

Dark Mothers aren't the usual mothers. But you have been there next to me, even when you needed to make me do this on my own. You have held Your torches up to light the way even when I walked in the wrong direction. 

Yes! You are my mother!
