Most Excellent.
What is excellence? What is it to excel?
The term is used in many ways, but always seems to come down to the idea that whatever is "excellent" meets, and often goes beyond, the highest previously set expectations for whatever it is.
"This person is an excellent (role the person fills in a specific situation/environment)."
"It was an excellent meal!"
"This is an excellent skill to learn if you want to do that kind of work."
Maybe that last example is more about usefulness than quality. The usefulness, though, likely would come from that skill being seen as so useful that comparing usefulness to time and effort spent learning it is a big payback. So it does still fit what I already said about how we use the term.
But what does any of that mean when speaking of a deity? What does any of that mean when I say that You are Most Excellent? I don't know if it means anything. It feels more like a formality, such as Your Excellency. That's not one that belongs to my culture, and I don't really understand it. What if the person addressed as such isn't actually excellent?
Again, I bring this to human terms, human understanding, human usage. That's what I have. And I don't feel right about applying it to You that way, so I don't really know how to define it.
Does any of that mean I do not see You as Most Excellent? Absolutely not! But how to explain why I see that You are Most Excellent?
How could You be any less?
It's not the kind of explanation I'm normally good with, and in fact I'd normally say it's not an "explanation" at all, but we are not confined here to what is normal among mortals. You are Most Excellent simply because You are. It does not need to be defined. It does not need to be justified.
