Guardian of the Gates! You decide who goes where. You unlock the appropriate gates and lift Your torches to light the way for us to enter. You keep other gates locked and refuse us entry when that is not the right path to take.

It is said that You have control over the gates to the Underworld, and that You not only decide who enters, but also who goes to which realms of the Underworld. So much has been lost about the Eleusinian Mysteries, but it is believed that You had a part in those rites because of Your experiences with Persephone and because You decide who is and is not granted entry into Elysium.

It was my own experience of arriving at the gates that introduced me to You. You did not open any gates for me. So often, we speak of You opening gates for us. I cannot help but also think of times when You keep them closed. That is why I am here to serve You.

I thank You for the alligator who followed the boat. I thank You for the lakes, rivers, and beaches. I thank You for humpback whales. I thank You for the turtles. I thank You for baths, showers, swimming pools, and glasses of water to drink. I thank You for rainy days and thriving plants. I thank You for the aquatic entry to other realms.
