Heavenly. Of the Heavens.

There are so many things "heavenly" can mean. It is important to look at original meanings. Part of going through Your epithets, though, is to look at how I connect with these different aspects of You, and that is influenced by what these names call forth in me.

To see You as Heavenly Hekate is to see You as holy, and as so much more than any human could ever imagine. "Heavenly" exists on the cosmic scale. (It's not that I don't understand the words. It's just that I love to dance with them.) Otherworldly divine. That sacredness that is a Mystery. It may be experienced, but can never be explained.

To see You as Hekate of the Heavens is to see You as Mistress of the Starry Cosmos, Keeper of the Keys to the entire universe. It is to see that You are so much more than what this one little planet holds. 

I love the fiction that has evolved from what Lovecraft wrote, though Lovecraft himself was a hateful man and that can be seen in his writing. Maybe that's why everything got so scary for him once it got BIG enough. Cosmic horror... the terrible things we couldn't see because we couldn't imagine them because we were too tiny and meaningless. Great fiction! But when it comes to pondering how BIG the real things are... You terrify me because my human brain has no other way to process so much on so large a scale. That's the reaction, but not the meaning.

What is that terror made of? Beauty, secrets, powers, eternity...so much! Heavenly Hekate, Cosmic Queen...this is one of the most difficult of Your names for me to ponder because You are so much more than what I will ever know. It is also a beautiful name that feels sacred when my mouth makes the shapes for it.
